Rework Your Winter Wardrobe To Transition Into Spring

Wednesday, March 07, 2018

Just when spring started to feel closer, this week winter is back in a major way for San Francisco. It's straight bone-chilling cold here, and the winds are so harsh that my little 5'1" frame almost flew away into the abyss lol. I just ordered a bunch of spring transitional pieces, but I’m bummed as I'm realizing it's going to be a minute before I can actually wear them due to mother nature not being agreeable with the season. I wanted to share how I’m reworking my winter wardrobe favorites to create easy yet chic looks that feel new, while still transitioning into spring. My favorite way to feel inspired by older pieces in my wardrobe is to pull together a monochromatic look and throw on a statement piece; whether that be a leopard scarf, multi-color necklace, bright crossbody, etc. It’s my no-fail solution for those days when I feel like I have nothing to wear. I've found that shades of gray are the easiest and most versatile to work with when transitioning from winter to spring. I've created three different looks utilizing various shades of gray, up-cycling many winter pieces from my closet, to show you how you can rework yours as well.

Sweater

The utility trend was everywhere during fashion week for Spring/Summer 2018, so a great way to utilize the neutral tones now is with olive and tan shades. Here I've layered an over-sized khaki sweater with tan OTK boots (you can substitute with booties if its warmer where you live), a statement leopard scarf, and to tie it all together a hint of gray in my jeans. I'm warm without being over-bundled while still looking (almost) spring-chic.

Blazer

A light gray top has been paired with a monochromatic color palette of black and white you can't ever go wrong with during any season. A blazer is not meant just for business anymore; It's great as an additional layer to keep warm, yet, light enough not to break a sweat in. Perfectly in-between the spectrum of a thick winter parka to a thin spring duster jacket.

Trench Coat

This is probably the most "spring"-ish outfit due to the color palette alone. A gray trench worked wonders incorporating a very spring color: pastel pink! Trenches are great shielding from spring showers and also stylish when it's just plain brisk. Easy to wear when out and about, and easier to take off once indoors.
